The New York Knicks have been struggling for years and every offseason, people talk about how they’re going to bring in big free agents. It never happens. This past summer, they were supposed to land Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Zion Williamson but it didn’t materialize at all.

Former Knicks center Enes Kanter offered some insight into why nobody wants to play in Madison Square Garden and it has to do with ownership. He confirms what we all knew to The Full 48 podcast:

“Not many people know that, but players talk. From different teams, they talk. I’m not blaming anybody. I had an amazing time with the Knicks. But other teammates that I talked to or if they’re on different teams, they always said, ‘Amazing city, MSG is amazing everything is so good, but the ownership.’ They would just keep saying, ‘But the ownership.’ … Some of the players I guess are just scared to come here and don’t even want to deal with that.”

This past offseason, they signed the likes of Julius Randle, Marcus Morris, Reggie Bullock to play alongside rookie RJ Barrett, Kevin Knox, Dennis Smith Jr. and Mitchell Robinson, so we’ll see how they fare in the Eastern Conference.

Don’t hold your breath for big names in the future, though.
